Gautier à Paris

Clockmaker

This Parisian clockmaker, who signed “Gautier à Paris”, was active in the late 18th century. He is mentioned by Tardy as having a workshop in the rue des Gravilliers at the beginning of the Empire period (see Dictionnaire des horloger français, Paris, 1971, p. 251). The name, sometimes spelled Gauthier, appears on the dials of certain clocks that were described in the probate inventories of several important Parisian collectors of the time, including Henry-Louis Frédy de Coubertin and the widow of Charles-Gabriel, Count of Toledo.
