Jacques-Joseph Castagnet was one of the finest Parisian horologists of the last quarter of the 18th century. In 1776, after being received maître, he opened a workshop in the rue Saint-Martin, soon gaining fame and an excellent reputation. Successively becoming deputy of his guild sometime between 1779 and 1783, then trustee (syndic) in 1786, he worked with the finest artisans of his period, including the renowned enameller Joseph Coteau (1740-1812).
